RESULTS WITHOUT A REASON

LONDON, April 7. Mr Ramanujam, an Indian mathematical genius, who was "discovered" by the Indian Government, will come into residence »»t Trinity' College, Cambridge, next term. Mr Ramanujam, although o. genius, lacks training, and most of his solutions have been reached by the flash of inspi-, ration, for h© cannot demonstrate scientifically how he obtdincd them. He has been for some time at Madras TJniversity, having been sent by the Indian Government, which had been watching him.

At Cambridge he will receive exceptional treatment. > Ho will enter the university as an advanced student, and is expected to remain for two years. He -wilt, attend lectures and be in touch with th© mathematical professors and teaching staff .and the best mathematical experts of the University. He' will not seriously attempt any general reading, and ■will just be a specialist among specialists. His introduction to Trinity College is due to Mr G. H. Hardv, a, mathematical lecturer at the college, who met Mr Ramanuijam in India and was impressed by his powers. H& holds a scholarship- from t'hs Indian Government and a research scholarship at Trinity Collfljjpe.
