UNIONS DEFAULTING.
(Special to Herald.)
WELLINGtON, this^day. A heavy slump in arbitration's indicated by the notice which the 'Registrar of Unions has given this week to cancel within six weeks the registration of no fewer than 14 workmen ? s registered industrial unions and- nine employers' unions. This action is being^taken under section 22 of the principal Act, which shows that, the registrai' id taking the final step, having previously failed to* secure returns, and having reason to believe' that these organisations are defunct. The unions specified are, in the case of the workers, the New Zealand branch of the Federated Seamen's Union, Auckland and Christchurch journalists, Canterbury . metal workers, Hamilton painters, Huntly coal miners, Taranaki tailors, Dannevirke carpenters, Wellington sausage-casing makers, Marlborougn freezing wdrkers, Christchurch butchers, Christchurch hairdressers, arid Southland slaughtermen ; also the Auckland boot manufacturers, Auckland harness manufacturers, Waikato and Wanganui master plumhers, Greymouth master builders, Westland sawmillers, Canterbury coachbuilders, and South Canterbury master tailors unions of employers.
