Mr J..H. Howes .has been appointed aecretary and local ' organiser for the Gisborne branch of the Reforni Party.

The many friends of Mr C J % . l'arker will reairet to hear that lie met with an accident by slipping and falling at hi* home this morning, which will cause him to be confined to bed for- a few days. :''■'■'

-Mr J. Benson, of Messrs Dalgety and Go's stock department, goes to Napier to-morrow to relieve . for aboutl two months in Dalgety and Co's branch in that town.

His Lordship Bishop Sedgwick arrives from Napier on Wednesday on his official visit Jto the Gisborne parish, and "will be given a civic * reception on Thursday. He will be accompanied by Mrs Sedgwick. A meeting of ladies of tho parisli was held yesterday afternoon, with a view td making arrangements for the visit.

The Rev. O. G. Mutter s. at present' acting-vicar at St. Michael's, Christchurch, has been appointed home missioner in succession to Bißliop Sedgwick, of Waiapu. Mr Mutter will continue to act as vicar of St. Michael's till the return to Chrifitchurch of the Rev. Canon Burton in December, and will take up the duties of missioner about March next.

Mr Outhbei't Morse, who for the last 15 years' has been prominently connected with racing in New Zealand, and who has owned numerous successful horses, is' about to give up racing. Mr Morse is disp6sing of his horses privately, among which are Birkline and Goldemar. He is also selling out his present tobacconist's business, with the intention of entering into another line of business.
