MAGISTRATE'S COURT AT WAIPIRO

A HEAVY CALENDAR

A sitting of the x Magistrate's Court was held at Waipiro Bay on the Ist and 2nd inst., before Mr - W. A. Barton, S.M., when a heavy calendar of 65 civil | cases and 27 criminal charges was presented. His Worship sat from 10 a.m. Friday till 12.30 a.m. Saturday, and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. ' till 5.30- p.m. The Court work comprised the following matters:— Ten natives were convicted and n'ned the usual amount for drunkenness. Piripi Hautake, for drunkenness when m charge of a horse at the Mangahanea sports, was fined £1, and costs 1% 6d, m default four days' imprisonment. Upon a further- charge-, of- using indecent language . iii a public place, defendant was fined £3, and costs 9s 6d, iv default 14 days' imprisonment (cumulative). Grace was • fined 10a, and costs 14s 6d, or foiu- days' imprisonment, and Sam Grace, on a similar charge, was fined £1. and 14s 6d costs, or seven days' imprisonment Murdock M'cKeime, licensee' of the Tuparoa hotel, was charged with having, m a. district proclaimed under section 46 the Licensing Amendment- Act, 1910, to wit, the Horouta Maori district,,supplied liquor to certain natives on February 17. Mr J. J. Mead, of Tokomaru Bay. appeared for defendant, who pleaded not guilty. After a. lengthy hearing, his Worship recorded a conviction, and fined defendant £20, and costs m default two months' imprisonment at Gisborne.

Supreme Qourt at Gisborne for sentence. Bail was allowed m a sum of £50 and two sureties of £25 each.
