MATAWAI NOTES.

SCHOOL CRICKET

A cricket team from Rakauroa journeyed to Matawai last Saturday to play a patch with the boys from the local school. Tim play was very interesting, and the sportsman-like way m which the juveniles behaved brought forth much favorable comment from the spectators. It is to be hoped that such friendly games will be continued, for it- is part of a child's education to meet hoys from other schools on^ the field Of sport. Although the Matawai boys had rather an easy win over their opponents, tho visitors played with a fine spirit. At the conclusion the boys had afternoon tea, kindly provided by the ladies, and before tho cricketers . departed, Emmeraon, the local captain, thanked the Rakauroa boys for the game they had so much enjoyed, and asked his eleven to cheer for the ladies, their visitors, and umpires and scorers, The Rakaurqa captain returned cheers for the courtesy which had been shown theni m their first cricket match m Matawai. LARGE SALE AT MATAWAILast Saturday there was a large sale of stock. There were many buyers and sellers present, and prices were exceptionally good.
