[Press Assn.—By Telegraph— CopyrlgM-B PARIS, April 7.

M. Poincare (President) informed themagistrate that M. Caillaux asked for an interview with him on the day of M. Calmette's assassination. M. Caillaux told him he feared the Figaro would publish letters involving his wife, and said, "If M. Calmette publishes our letters^ I will kill him." M. Poincare endeavored to calm M. Caillaux, and called later and oonferred with M. Doumergue with a view to dispelling M. Caillaux's fears. He had just arranged to use his influence to prevent the publication of the letters when he heard of the murder. M. Reichep, sub-editor of the Figaro;, gave evidence that M. Caillaux, a month before the crime, told a member of the staff of the Figaro 4 that unless M. Calmette ceased his campaign he would kill him m a " duel. M. Latzarus, a journalist, denied that M. Calmette intended to publish the letters, and said their contents had been bandied about on all •aides, but no newspaper dared sully its columns with them.
