MONEY MARKET.

♦ ■ — i Since our last report the outlook for the local money market has become ' much more cheerful. The cause for this J is the easing of the London < market owing to a somewhat sudden abundance \ of capital for investment there, and the , highly successful flotation of a loan of £4,500,000 by the New Zealand Government. As far as the local market is concerned this cheefulness is more an- J ticipatory than present, as the actual ■ supply of money locally is still not over plentiful, but the effect of this loan will \ be felt before very long. * The import and export returns, which ! wo review m this issue, display an ex- I cobs of exports of £1.158,656 for the year -just closed, as compared with £934,707 for the previous, year, and 1 £195,500 for the year before that. This < improvement is pleasing, but the excess < is still far short of what it should be; 1 however, tho prospects for the current export season . are highly promising. < Though wool shipments for the season i to date aro some 29,000 bales below last i season, this will probably be made up \ to a great extent later on, and against I this, dairy produce and meat shipments i are nearly £700,000 ahead of the same period a year ago. The realisation from ] the sale of this produce are now coming ] m and replenishing the supply of money, and we think the community may look forward to improved monetary condi- \ tions, bringing with it a general im- ] provement m trade all round. — Trade ( Review.
