' - The Labor conference, on the motion \ of Mrs Scary, by 52 to 26, appointed a i deputation to wait on the Government) 1 and urge greater recognition of women's ' rights. The debate was exhilarating] I and at times exciting. Several male I delegates opposed the motion, theii j speeches being punctuated by shrill • female shouts. The mover claimed that { labor was m power SQlely on account oi ' the women's support. Women were not ( m the Labor movement for fun, but tc i improve tlieir position. There was a I movement', afoot to send some more mem- ' hers to the Legislative Council. Why not send women They demanded recognition. It was insulting and humiliati ing to be treated as they were now. 1 She M-arned the conference that if things [ were not altered there would bo a split m the Labor ranks as serious as existed m Victoria. .
