TE KARAKA.
The weather during the last week has been much cooler arid pleasanter owing to the few nice showers which have fallen. Grass is already . showing a tinge of green, and there- is a welcome absence of dust. The first shower fell on the evening of the 29th ult., after the conclusion of the Waikohu Anglican Church fete, which has i een fortunate both this year and last m having fine weather. Ths attendame this year was not nearly aa good as last year, owing no doubt to the counter attractions, which took many people away. Tho day, bo\v©\pr was most successful, and as a. ret-ult fhe vicarage building fund will benefit by over £80, leaving a debt of about £70 on the building. The contractors "have now finished. The vicar has taken up his residence m his new home. Tho Rifle dub is increasing steadily m strength, and there is already a gratifying improvement m the shooting. A number of members have the new aperture sights fitted to their rifles, and this improvement on the old style is universally acknowledged. '' January was a record dry month, the total rainfall being 0.60 inches, which fell on four days. Several wells have oriven out, but m some cases the owners, by going deeper down, have got a further aupply. There was a sharp shook of earthquake, which lasted several seconds, at noon to-day (Thursday). The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. announce that they intend holding a stock sale m the Te Karaka saleyards on Monday, the 16th inst. — Correspondent.
