The police raided an opium-smoking establishment run .on luxurious- lines and patronised by tlie leaders of fashion. The rkid was the outcome of the death of a prominent demi monde on tho premises from an overdose of ether. Subsequently a number of well-known members of society and a wealthy youth who called to ma"ke inquiries were crossexamined by the police and their revelations caused a sensation.
