WELLINGTON, last night. Regarding the reported failures of vaccination Avith Government lymph, the Minister for Public Health states that a comprehensive return by the Government bacteriologist slums, that of 19 separate vaccine supplies issued by him m July, 1913 — and the only ones issued — he has returns Avhich indicate that m the case of 16 of these not only havo successful results been obtained, but the amount of success attained has been up to 100 per cent., while for the other three of the 19 the percentage of successes was 91 per cent., 83 per cent., and 80 per cent. In explanation of the failures, he says .the matter was a difficult one. In six districts one certain lymph;, was used. Five districts reported obtaipmg 100 per cent, of successes. There waS some other cause outside the vaccine station and its methods, such as — (1) defects m the technique of the vaccinator; (2) neglect of care of lymph by vaccinators; (3) conditions uniavorable to lymph m transit to vaccinators; (4) interference by " vaccinees ; and (5) immunity due to previous exposure of the Vaccinee to coavs infected with coaa> pox or acquired from previous vaccination or small-pox, which must be yet ascertained to account for the reported inefficiency of vaccinations of the s'Government lymph.
