BUILDINGS IN THE BOROUGH.

The following report on the subject of buildings was submitted at the Borough Council meeting last night : —

Sixteen permits have been issued of a stated value of £4GIO, as under— B buildings, 2 additions tp dwellings, 2 additions |to shops, 5 outhouses, convergences and workshops. Following Is the monthly statement: Dwellings 16, value £8168; additions to dwellings 8, £996; outhouses and conveniences 9, £77; additions to shops and workshops 2, £528; total, £9769. —Corresponding period 1912: Dwellings 15, lvalue £5849; additions to dwellings 7, £577; outhouses and conveniences 9, £427; additions to shops and workshops 3, £801; factory and strongroom- i, £674; total £8328. The new buildings m course cf erection comprise 30 dwellings, 25 others, a total of 55. Messrs Macheil and Russell seek permission to remove certain wood and Iron buildings from ttheir present site m Gladstone ' road and in' contravention of the. brick area by-laws, to Te-erect them at a distance of about 15ft from the original site buttqd against a similar construction; the object being to clear a site for new buildings m brick. I have notified the owner of the- brick premises now occupied by Mr E.. D. Smith (chemist) to repair walls, as at present they are m a dangerous condition!
