Private advices state that Mr. Findlay, of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's London staff, is coming* to New Zealand m the Athenic to be chief representative of thel company m tjie dominion. , "
Miss Anderson Hughes, the • wellknown temperance lecturess, was married m the Baptist Church, at Evesham last month, to the Rev. R. J. Drew, Congregational minister, and her future home will be at Southampton. Mrs Drew, who visited Gisborne during stqrae pf her tours, and held an allnations demonstration m this town, hopes t-o attend the World's Memorial Convention of the W.O.T.U. at Brooklyn, New .York, next October, when she, will -represent the New Zealand Union.
* A . gathering of the members of the Herald staff assembled to make a presentation to Mr E. J. Hodges, the linotype'^expert, prior to his departure for .Auckland, where he .has accepted a new •position. He was made the recipient of a handsome set of pipes, while for Mrs Hodges a handsome set of silverware was'" presented. Short speeches of an appreciative nature were made by representatives of the literary, linotype, bookbinding, .printing and publishing staffs, hearty expressions of goodwill being tendered, especial /appreciation being expressed on behalf of the lino, operators at: the splendid condition m which the machines were maintained. Mr Hodges (who leaves for Auckland to-morrow morning) briefly replied' m suitable terms.
