REPLY TO BISHOP CLEARY.

DUNEDIN, this day. At the Garrison, Hall last" night Dean Fitchett, on behalf of the Bible-in-Sohools league, addressed an overflowing attendance m. reply to a. recent address by Bishop Cleary, of Auckland. He quoted from the New South Wales tekt book and from, the testimony m support of it to 'show that teachers m Newt i Zealand might/ -take Up- the Booj^ aiid teach from it literature, morality and- history. They would not be expected* 2 to teaoh doctrines. The ministers wctalcl not allow them to do that . beca*ase they wculd go into the schools with the Bible and do that themselves.: -
' He challenged the Otago Education Institute, which passed a resolution* last wriek^in Opposition to the programme of the League; to- select two of its members and- send them to Australia to investigate the position, and if they would Abide by the result the League would pay their «»Kpehses. • >> The meeting was most enthusiastic, and Dean Fitchett was heartily thanked fot-hiß address. ; ;:» - J >- , ://
