WELLINGTON, this day

At the Arbitration Court to-day, Mr Justice Sim presiding, Eileen Thomson claimed from the executors m the estate of Hare Wi Katene, native interpreter, the sum of £116 12s 6d, for injuries to her hand, resulting from blood poisoning set up by ' cutting her wrist on the jagged edge of a dish while employed by defendant as housekeeper. The Court decided that the hand was permanently incapacitat-ed, and awarded compensation on tho basis, the amount to beagreed on by counsel. The Chief Justice, Sir Robt. Stout, gave judgment to-day m the case Hubert Stacey Home versus Dalgety and Co. , m which certain questions of law had to be argued before the trial of the action was begun. The statement of claim set forth that Home went to the rescue of an engineer employed m looking after sheep-shearing' machinery exhibited by defendants at the Blenheim agricultural show, who had got caught m. tho machinery. Damages were claimed for iniuries received by the plaintiff. , Tho "Chief Justice held that thdre was no negligence on the part of defendants m properly protecting the machinery, and that the statement of claim did not disclose any cause of action.

DUNEDIN, this day. Obituary • Ex-Sergeant Conn, aged 69, who was ono of the pioneers of the West Coast, and worked m the next tent to tho late Mr Seddon. Deceased served as a police officer m various parts of the Dominion, and retired four years ago, unacr the age limit.
