Messrs Williams and Kettle; Ltd., have received the following wool report from their London agents, dated 25th April:— The third series of colonial wool sales for the current year commenced on the 22nd inst, with a large attendance of buyers from the various sections of the trade, whilst competition was general and very animated. On the opening night the five catalogues of colonial wool comprised 9933 bales, whilst a sixth with 2328 bales Punta Arenas was also submitted, the selection of wool being fairly representative. Prices of both merinos and crossbreds show practically no change on lvalues ruling at tjie close of last sales. | Slipes also are unchanged for the combliner descriptions, but clothing sorts arc j occasionally 5 per cent dearer. The Home I trade is 6perating freely among all kinds of crossbreds, and likewise the Continent, but so far there has been practically no demand from the American section. of the I trade. The result of the opening, In view | of the somewhat slow period that was experienced during the interval, 'Is - distinctly satisfactory, and in the main better jthan was generally expected. That America still holds dff is a disappointing I feature, but that is only, what, might, be, I expected; until something more ' decided 1 and definite is arrived ' at regarding .'the 'tariff. The total available quantity for the series is 187,000 bales, of which 100,000 bales 'comprise Now* Zealand descriptions and 13,2'00 bales Capes. It is not expect-, ed that anything like the f ull \quantlty will be offered. The latest Bradford prices for" tofcs are as follows: Merino 60's 2s 5Jd, crossbred fine 56's Is ll|d, 50's Is ffjd, % medium 46's Is s£d, coarse 40's <Is 4id, 36"s Is 4d per lb. The subsequent sales have -fully cortnrlwe'd the 'opening, prlces generally remaining" flrih except forj fadlty merinos, which are meeting an! irregular 'and somewhat . easier .markets Messrs Murray, . Roberts and Co. have received' the 'followih'g" iHform'dtioh iroiri their Edndonnhouise, Messrs Sanderson] Murray and Co., dated April 25:— Wool^ The third series of colonial wool sales] opened on the 22nd inst. There was a| large attendance of buyers, and the males' opened with good competition. Compared with the closing fates of the previous] sales, prices for greasy merino wools are] barely maintained, hcavy-condltloned inferior sorts being frequently ,5 per, cent.! ldwerf than in March. Crossbred wools! mcf>t a good market, but prices compared with the close of the last series show very little change. Fine descriptions arc a shade weaker. The total quantity for the series, after deducting the number of bales for\Varded direct, artd adding the number of bales held over from last series, amounts to about 187,000 bales.
