CITY BAND CONCERT.
For the concert given in aid of the City Band last evening the Opera House was croAA'dedf The concert, Avhich AA'as under the management of Mr Geo. H. Tarr, . was a decided success, and' the rounds of applause that greeted the close of 'each, item proved decisiA T ely that the audience were enjoying tfiemselves. The City Band played a selection entitled "The King and Country," and at the commencement of the second part of the programme rendered. "The Dollar Princess." TVo' moving pictures were shown, and then followed the concert part of . the programme. Mr Grant DoAvnie sang an illustrated song entitled "When, the Bees are in the Hive," which Avas well received by the house. Mr A. Zachariah Avas enthusiastically encored at the conclusion of the comic song "La La," and for an encore gave "Yip-i-addy-i-ay." Miss Ina » SAveet, owing to indisposition, Avas unable to be present to join Mi* Bayliss in a "Geisha" duet, but he greatly pleased the audience Avith""Chin-Ch_p Chinaman." Songs were given by Messrs F. Teat and Heathcote, and Mr 'Geo. H. Tarr, in several character sketches, evoked roars of laughter. Messrs E. Every and H. G. McOlymont capably rendered a duet, entitled "The Battle." Miss Jacobs, delighted those present with her singing of "If I were Queen of the Night." Mr W., Randall made a "hit" in his coster song, "Harry," and he received a well-merited encore, in response to which he gave' the humorous song entitled "I'm Painting Them." A number of musical monologues Avere given by Mr J. Samson, and caused great merriment.
The evening's entertainment was brought to a close by the character sketch, "The Artist's Studio," in which Messrs P. G. AndreAr, W. Randall, J. Samson, and G. H. Tarr took part.
