Doust and Rice, in the doubles, completely smothered Wrenn and Lamed. Both the former are 'national champions. The Americans' only score was taken in the first set, 6—l. The Australians smashed spiritedly in rallies, and won the three games decisively. Experts opine 'that the Americans will have a hard task to defeat the Australians in the Davis Cup doubles.
Jones appeared on the courts showing the results of his illness, and it ia doubtful if he Avill play.
BERLIN, June 3
The Davis Cup tie between France and Germany has began at Wiesbaden. Kresger beat Gobert I—6. 6—4, 6—2 6-3.
