GIRLS IN FLAMES.
PANIC-STRICKEN CONGREGATION
LONDON, May 28. There was a painful scene during the celebration of High Mass at the French Church in Leicester Square,. London.
In the middle of the service a young girl, dressed in white, commenced to rush along the gallery, and in a moment it was seen that her clothing was on fire.
Two other girls ran to her assistance, and the flames spread to their dresses, too, and the three rushed down and across the floor of the church, causing a. panic among the worshippers, many of whom were trodden down in the excitement, while many more fainted. Everybody hurried out of the church, while the organist played a solemn voluntary, and the officiating priest pronounced the "Dominus Vobiscum," the choir alone responding. When the panic was over the congregation returned to find that neither of tho girls were injured badly, and the service was completed. It transpired that the child s long veil came in contact with the flames of a gas stove. ,
