VICTIM OF SUPERSTITION.

The wife of a Brahmin at Lucknow, declaring that she had become "suttee," set fire to her clothing as her husband's body was borne to the burning ghat, but the flamos about her wore extinguished. She then tried to throw herself on to the funeral pyre, and was arrested. •
"Suttee" is an old Indian custom by which a widow sacrificed herself to the flames.
