SOCIALIST SOLDIERS REVOLT.
MUTINY THAT WAS NIPPED IN THE BUD. LONDON/ May 28 The present agitation by French Socialist soldiers against the Three Years Service Bill culminated m a sensational outbreak at Rodez.
The trouble occurred with the 122 nd 'Regiment. Instigated by a school teacher and several membevs of the Labor Federation serving m the ranks; a considerable number of the men m that regiment planned a mutiny. Their intention was to break open the ammunition stores and then to proceed to Albi,' where they were to effect a. junction with another revolting regiment. At 8 o'clock m the Vndrning tlio regimental band began to assemble m the barrack square. Suddenly the bandsman started shouting. This and other forms of disorder m which they indulged attracted the attention of Major Anideby, who at once ordered the offenders to be placed . under arrest. Before these orders could ,be •executed the bugle sounded. Major Angleby instalntly advanced towards the bugler and knocked him down. The mutineers thereupon poured down the stairs from the upper floors of tho barracks, all being fully armed with rifles and ammunition. Their progress, however, was stopped by eighteen non-commissioned officers, who, with* fixed bayonets, blocked the narrow staircase, and threatened to kill the first man who tried to get piist. Tlmj mutineers were thoroughly cowed, and made no attempt to force a passage. Within three-quar-ters of an hour they Avere all under arrest. This rebellious outbreak has only had the effect of strengthening the decision of the Government to take action against the Labor .organisations and those who were responsible for the'disturbance.
