It is stated that the peeress who wrote the letter to the Times denouncing modern, vulgar forms of daiicing is one of the ladies cf the- Queen's' household, and that the commun'icatitra. ;was ' directly inspired by her Majesty,' who is disgusted with the fashionable • frolics. '
The letter kithnates irt unmistakable language 'that the King iCnd Queen will refrain from visitirtg houses ~ where such performances take place, and threatens that hostesses' permitting the American dances to bo danced at their; gatherings will be ftiuckj6^'i;the l t)ourt*fist.
Father Bernard Vaughan, the wellknown Catholic divine, ,,, speaking, at a .meeting of tho Catholic Women's League, said that he had sufficient confidence m the British matrons to know that they would not countenance m London ballrooms what the« best society m New York would not tolerate.
