ROSS GOLDFIELDS MINE.
(Per Press Association.)
HOKITIKA, last night. Mr G. S. Davis, chairman of directors of the Ross Goldfields Co., arrived m Hokitika on Saturday night, and the following day left for Ross, m company with Mr E, M. Smythe, local director. On his return he was interviewed m regard to the development at the mine. Mr Davis stated that pumping operations were being continued, and although there was a. large body of water m the Cassius workings, it was being handled to his complete satisfaction. In reply to a question as to the amount of water actually being dealt with, he said there was now a sufficient number of bores pumping to keep . one sinking pump and stationary pump m operation. The actual flow from the Cassius workings was about 1300 gallons per minute, which, with the 900 gallons being lifted from the old Ross working?, makes a total of 2200 gallons per minute dealt with by the pumps. This arrangement leaves one sinking pump and one stationary pump available for the reserve. In regard to the Diesel plant recently installed, Mr Davis said he had had the satisfaction of seeing this running, and although a few minor alterations were necessary, it was now practically available, should it be found necessary to utilise the auxiliary power m the event of any accident to the transmission line. He further stated that the. operations of the pump exceeded expectations^ and he was gratified at the able manner m which the staff were coping with the difficulties met with.
