AUCKLAND FESTIVITIES.
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, last night. The principal feature of to-day's doings m connection with the visit of the NewZealand was the sports meeting, postponed from Saturday on account ol the weather. . A good deal of rain fell today, but only m the form of showers, and a large crowd attended the sports, which were a decided success. A number of interesting events were contested, including some open only to the men of the warship. A seven a-side Rugby football tournament was also part of the programme. A team from the battleship competed, but was beaten m the firsi^ round. A second batch of officers and men left for Rotoriui to-day to spend the day there m sight-seeing. The citizens' ball given last week to the officers was a financial, as well as a social success, resulting m a credit balance of £18. An address of welcome was presented to Captain Halsey on board the vessel to-day by a number of Maoris,* representing the natives living m the liauraki district and m the neighborhood of Auckland.
