CLOSE OF WOOL SALES.

PRICES HIGHEST OF SERIES. (Press Assn.— By Telegraph— Copyright (Received May 8, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, May 7. The wool sales have closed. The market was strong, the prices being the j highest of the series.

(Special to Herald.) NAPIER, this day. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following cable from their London house, Messrs Sanderson, Muri ray and Co. : — "The sales have closed I firm. Held over 49,000. bales. Compared wit/a the closing rates of last London sales scoured merino, faulty and i inferior, advanced 5 per cent. ; greasy ' merino, inferior^ declined 5 per cent. ; ' for merino of other descriptions the • market shows no material change j crossbred greasy, fine, declined 5 per cent. ; for crossbred greasy, medium, the market shows no material change; crossbred greasy, coarse, par to 5 per cent, advance ; for crossbred, other descriptions, the market shows no material change."

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Gisborne, have received the following cable from their London Office, under yesterday's date : — "Wool Sales.— l3B,ooo bales of wool sold at wool sales; 45,000 bales for Continent, 1000 bales for Amerioi. Sales closed strong. . 49,000 bales held over. As compared with last sales closing rates prices are about par to 5 per cent, higher for scoured merino inferior, coarse xb slipe, medium xb slipe ; about pa.r to 5 per cent, lower for greasy merino inferior, fine greasy xb, medium greasy xb. Average current London value of the undernoted descriptions of New Zealand greasy wool : — Good merino 14d, medium merino 13d, inferior merino 10^d, fine xb 13d, medium xb llAd, coarse xb (40's) lid, coarse xb (36*8) 10^d.
