Senator Bristow has introduced, on behalf of the Progressives, the first, of a series of Bills, the object of which is to regulate big business concerns by means of an Industrial Commission of seven members. It is proposed that tliie commission should be empowered to deal drastically Avith all large corporations engaged in inter-State business ; that it should have authority over all persons and corporations' doing inter-State business to the amount of £1,000,000 yearly, AvitK the right to liold an annual investigation into (their financial condition, business operations, and management, find that it should require all to bring their capital stock indebtedness down to not more than 10 per cent, of the fair and ' reasonable value of the property on hand. A three years' limit is alloAred in Avhicht the Avater may be squeezed out of American industries.
