DROWNING TRAGEDIES.
TWO LIVES LOST. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. At the inquest on the body of John Brady, who fell off a river steamer last week, and was drowned, a verdict of accidental death was returned. Another drowning fatality is feared. This morning at 4 o'clock a married man named Arthur Hill Campbell left his house at Wanganui East scantily clad. He has not beeri seen since, amf it is thought he got into the river. The' police are dragging for the body.> . CHRISTCHURCH, this -day. A double drowning fatality occiuTed at New Brighton yesterday afternoon. A married woman named Mabel Highet, aged 32, wife of Mr Gibb Highet, of Ohristchurch, was bathing in the river Avon at Herring Bay, when she, .got out of her depth, and into difficulties. Her brother-in-law John Highet,; aged [ 37, who was bathing at the time, went !to her assistance, but was dragged unI der, and both were drowned. Mrs Highet's two small' children, ' aged', five and i three years, were on the ißank of the river when the tragedy happened. Dragging operations were commenced shortly afterwards. The bodies . were recovered and brought to the city morgue.
