GISBORNE-NAPIER RAILWAY.
THE EMBANKMENT SITE. SETTLING THE QUESTION. (Per Press Association.) NAPIER, this day. It is stated that there is a strong probability of an agreement being reached in regard to the site of the proposed embankment for the, East Coast railway across the Inner Harbor, and t.he Hon. Mr Fraser will be so informed when he next visits the district. The question solved itself by the Borough's decision not to take part in the controversy, as such action would tend to make their portion of the cost of construction heavier. The only body likely to object is the River Board, but with the County and Harbor Board in agreement and the Borough standing out, the two-mil© site is bound to be chosen by the GovernI ment. The County chairman says that as long as his ratepayers are not burdened with greater cost than the construction of 2000 feet (the length of the 1 present "bridge), he has no objection to the embankment being placed any- j where. It is stated that a complete understanding exists between the chairman of the Harbor Board and the County Council.
