OBSTRUCTION ON THE RAILS.

THE HUNTLY MISHAP

(Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON, this day

The express train which left Auckland for Wellington at 9.10 o'clock on Wednesday night was delayed 13 minutes at Taupiri, near Huntly, through running into a sleeper, which had' been placed across the line. A-piece of the timber caught in the cowcatcher, and had to be knocked out. The train arrived in Wellington at schedule time yesterday afternoon. There are rumors that the incident amounted to an attempt to wreck the train, but these appear to be unfounded. A report from Taupiri states that marks can be plainly seen where the sleeper was put across the rails, and where the ballast was disturbed as the engine dragged - the sleeper along. The rauwa- officials scout the id!ea that the sleeper had fallen across the rails, or got there without, being deliberately placed in position. There was a rumor that the outrage was ap attempt by a disaffected and eccentric employe in the railway service.
