The magnificent vitagraph adaptation of Sir Walter Scott's beautiful ppem "The Lady of the Lake" attracted a crowded house to His Majesty's Theatre last night, and the large audience, with breathless attention, followed the fortunes of the banished Earl of Angus and his fair daughter EHen through all their vicissitudes amongst the troub* lous Highlands. The surpassing beauty of.tlfe Trq^sachs, Loch Katrine,, and other Highland gems of scenery had frequently been heard of and read about by New Zealanders, but in "The Lady of t^ Lake" the ,f ugged grandeur of these' world-famed scenes were actually tfjaced before them last night. Apart iroijfiithe magnificent setting Scott's stirring, romance is galvanised into life by the. splendid acting of the Vitagraph players. All the well-known characters, tiie Earl of Angus, hig beautiful daugh. teK 'Ellen, Malcolm Graeme, Rhodenck DnuTthe aged minstrel Allan-bane, and last font not least Scotland's brave and gallant King were portrayed as if, they had stepped from tne glowing pages of Soptt's immortal story. The large audience were^at times quite carried away byj.no stirring scenes presented, and , great "applause followed at the cldse of ' wlfat all agreed was the finest drama yet seen.
