BEATEN WITH GARDEN HOSE.
LOS ANGELES, Sept 18. Charjes Hoffman, who occupies a prominent position m the town, has bedn taken to court to answer charges by his wife of having maltreated liis five-yeay-old son. Mrs Hoffman fcwore that. her husband had beaten the child with a length of garden hose. He was stripped m court, and great red weals were shown on his hack. The court decreed that the father should be deprived for 60 days of the right to chastise his son br the other children, and Mrs Hoffman was temporarily installed as the head of the family.
