V" to Herald.) NAPIER, this day. \ -The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held yesterday. The.'chairman's statement showed: — Appointment : Makauri, headmaster, Mr A. Soundy. Resignations received : Mr G. t M. Piper, sole teacher, Te Puia; Mr A. Souridy, assistant, Dannevirke South. iMIT'.A. W. Mills, appointed sole teacher at Kanaklanaia, declined the appointment. Sympathy : I note with deep regret 'lAiat Ine only child of Mr Bissel, chairman of the Makaraka School Committee, niet "with a, fatal :accident while on her way to school on the 20th ult., ahd have* instructed the secretary to convey to the, parents the Board's sympathy m their bereavement. Delayed grants : • The greatest possible inconvenience to the Board and irritation to N householders has been occasioned by the Department's long delay m dealing with'the Board's applications for certain grants. In 'May last applications were made for grants for conveyance to Tokomaru Bay and Norsewpod schools, no definite reply having been forthcoming. Applications for the .establishment of small schools at the 16'calititJs to which the children were to be conveyed were tiiade early m August. No definite i reply has yet been received to these, tfnd m the meantime the bofnhuttees of I the districts are paying as rilllch as £2" jlOs per week 1 for fcohveyance. This : delay is' most exasperating, but the Board is quite helpless m the matter. General : Miss Ahgland to be transferred to Gisborne. The tender of J. Jackson, £405, was accepted f Or the ere6tion of a school at Opoutama. Children attend-; ing at Waerenga-H-lrika are to be conveyed to Patutahi to avoid the risk of crossing the river., The Department is to be asked for a grant towards the cost.
