(Pre*. Aaia.— By Telegraph.— Copyright.) LONDON, July 22. In the matoh Australia v. Hampshire, m th* latter's first innings Mead continued to bat steadily throughout.. Mead and Newman added 45 for the severith wicket, and Sprott and Mead 34 for the eighth. Sprott batted for only 10 minutes, but during his short occupancy of the wicket hit a sixer and four tourers. The ninth wicket added 47. Remnant batted fur 25 minutes. Mead, who was unbeaten at the finish, played (faultless and clean cricket for 240 minutes, »nd hit 25 fourers.

Both were ut one wicket, and Smith caught a hot return. Mayne was taken at the wicket after 75 minutes' play. Bardsley was cleverly caught high up. Kelleway and Gregory made a better stand, and added 85, not being separated. A total of 51 was registered m 40 minutes. The century was hoisted vi 115 minutes, Kelleway leg-hitting and driving and Gregory batting olf round.
