The results obtained this season from lucerne-growing m the Awatere district (states the Marlborough Express) are -very encouraging, and will no doubt go a long way towards popularising the plant m that locality. It is reported that' more than one grower has secured three bags of 'seed to the acre, after taking off large quantities of fodder. In-- one case, it is stated, about £600 worth of seed was taken off some 20 acres. The crop referred to was grown at Flaxbouine, the limestone formation.-; of which locality seems to be particularly favorable to", lucerne. Further along the coast, too, where the land has a considerable proportion of lime, lucerne has given prolific returns. . Some people have a mania for advertising. Grieve, jeweller, for instance.
