The Tyser Co.'s Muritai is due m Gisborne jnfext week to load a portion of the Star of Canada's cargo. The auxiliary schooner Orete arrived from yesterday afternoon, after a very rough passage extending over 10 days. On Saturday, July 6, the vessel put out from Auckland en route for Gisborne, via all coast .bays, and made Hicks' Bay on Tuesday. There was a heavy N.N.E. sea running and a very i ■strong wind. After considerable difficulty the port was worked, and the vessel reached Port A.Wnnui on Friday. The sea was too heavy to., work cargo, and the captain decided to put out to sea. From then until yesterday the vessel was drifting up and down the coast keeping clear of the . land. There was no wind, but a very heavy N.N.E. swell was running. Yesterday a north-east gale set m, and; the skipper came on to Gisborne. She has on board 20,000 ft. of timber and 60 tons oi> coal' for Gisborne, the remainder of her carro- bg-j ing for, coast bays. Tho vessel leaves)^r:«ll coast bays on Saturday. The- new vessel, which left London oh June ' 12,' and passed Las Falmas four days - later, having covered tha distance at a- rate of. ; about 16 knots per hour, and, according to a cable massage just to hand, left Capetown oh July 2.- Given favorable weather, Hhe Makarini may reach' Melbourne —her first port of discharge— about July 27. / Captain Stenbeck -has returned to Auckland from Tonga. Captain Stenbeck left Auckland ■ome threX weeks ago with the small , mission . cutter Koe-Fetuu Aho, and reports thai the! vessel was driven jbut of her course, in* thedirection of the Kermadec Islands by strong •westerly winds. ; The remainder 6f the \ passage was marked by favorable winds and fine weather,; The distance, 1500 miles, was covered m the creditable tune of eight days and a-half, aotual sailing time. , The Koe Fetuu Aho was taken over at Nukualofa by the Tongan Free Church authorities, who expressed their -.with *-the vessel.- — ■ ■*.:? : ?~ 1 Further evidence \of the terrific weather vessels bound to Australia ■ from London are meeting with is afforded by the experience of the Tyser liner Star of Scotland. She sailed from London on the 21st May for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand ports, and with ordinary weather would certainly have put m appearance at the first port within HO or 41 days, but so bad was the weather that propress was delayed, and she ran short of coal m. .consequence of whioh the uneexpected visit to Albany was paid. The Bteamer is due New Zealand at the end of the month. Mr C. B. Wheeler has joined the Mokoia as purser, m place of Mr T. B. Walker, who went ashore at Wellington on holiday leave. Mr F. G.
