A "BUNKER" FOR ROOSEVELT.

LONDON, July 5,

London newspapers applaud Mr Woodrow Wilson's nomination for the American Presidency, the press generally asserting that the New Jersey Governor is the best Democrat available. The Pall Mall Gazette writes that Dr. Wilson represents an element of breadth and culture that has been lacking m his (Countrymen, m politicians m general, and m the Democrats m particular. There is no doubt, the paper goes on to say, that Governor Wilson's success m securing nomination will prevent that leakage of Radical votes from the party by which Mr Roosevelt m other circumstances would have hoped to strengthen .the new organisation to which he is now devoting himself. At the same time, adds the Gazette, it would be very rash to say that Mr Roosevelt's .chances, are done, but the Democrats certainly look like reaping success. Tlie Westminster Gazette remarks that •iti is generally agreed that Governor Wilson's selection will prove an awkward "bunker" for Mr Roosevelt.

NEW YORK, July 5. Tho American papers generally are eulogistic, m their references to the Democratic nominee, Governor Wilson, and predict that he will be the next occupant of White House.

The New York Times declares that m the nomination of Dr. Wilson the Democratic party has been re-born. Mr Roosevelt and a group of lieutenants have begun the work of laying the foundation of the new party. Severn! issues will be brought into the campaign, the foremost argument being that the course of affairs at the Republican and Democratic Convention^ and the recent history of the country demonstrate the need for a new party of national scope and opposed- 'to political bosses.
