At the quarterly meeting of the Public Service. Superannuation" Board. Mr H. J. Blovv, , IS.-0., ; a.nd Mb John Strauchon, 1.5.0.,' took tlieii\ seats as' itewly-apt pointed members of the Board. A complaint made by a recipient of retiring allowance as to his agent not being allcrWed to receive an allowance without the production of life certificate was com sidered, and the opinion of the Crown Law officers was placed before the board. The opinion fully, endorsed the action taken by the secretary of the board. Certain officers m the Post and T'elegrapb Department were granted permission to count former service m other departments, the service having been continuous. A case was reported to the Board of an officer who had served m the Post and Telegraph Department^ and had been retired as medicay unfit, and who is now carrying on a business-, : which appeared to point to the fact that the officer had regained his health. It was decided that the person m question shall be required to submit Oiirhself for medical re-examination. The secretary brought before the board the question of officers being retired as medically Tinfit,' and the process required by the Act to enable such cases to come before the board. A new method was proposed and adopted, by which the departments will require to* satisfy the board that adequate steps have been taken to prove that persons proposed to be so retired ai'e m such a condition of health as to be entitled to the benefit of the:, Act. The secretary informed the board that the amount at the credit of the fund m the hands of the Public Trustee . and m the Post Office on June 30, 1912, was £387^579. The totals of the retiring allowances and annuities to widows. and children passed by the board are as follows : — Ordinary, £1887 ; medically -unfit, £3451 ; ten widows and fourteen children, £362; tj0f01.:.,£2595.
