BETTING IN LICENSED HOUSES.
(Par Presß Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. At the Magistrate's Court James Scott, Harry Martindale, and (Matthew Livingston were charged with breaches of the section of the Gaming Act relating to betting m licensed houses. Sir John Findlay said the cases were the first under the particular sectionbrought before the Court for interpretation. For each offence Scott was liable to a minimum fine of £20. He suggested that one information be withdrawn, and he would enter a plea of guilty on the first charge. The police adopted the course suggested, and a fine of £20 was imposed. Decision was reserved m the case of Martindale, charged with paying a bet made by Scott. The other cases were proceeding.
