STATE OF THE SEA Cape Maria reported considerable sea tiiis morning, Russell rough, Tiritiri a moderate swell, Tauranga moderate, East Cape heavy, Gisborne smooth, Napier very heavy, Cape I'alliser (south-easterly gale) heavy,- Cape Campbell (south-east gale) very heavy, Timaru considerable, Oamaru heavy, Bluff moderate, Mamikau Heads and New Plymouth smooth, Westport and Greyniouth moderate. WEATHER FORECAST. The forecast issued last night states: "Present indications are for easterly to southeasterly winds strong to gale, with -heavy rain and rivers rising, especially on the East Coast, and snow on higher levels, with colder weather * following. The barometer will probably fall further m the north, but will oontiniie to ,rise unsteadily m the south," To-day's forecast states: "Variable westerly strong to gale, with southerly strong to" gale prevailing after 10 hours to 16 hours; .•' very heavy rain may be expected; rivers high arid weather probably colder; glass rise after 10 hours, but unsteady ; tides good; sea very heavy on the coast."
