(Received July 15, 8.5 a.m.) LONDON, July 14V Mr Lloyd George, in* his speech at Kenriingtoti , Theatre, said he did not claiiri that the Insurance Act would bring the millennium, btit it brought it nearer. To : morrow would be knoAvn m the annals of the sick ' and distressed as a red-cross day. Already nine and a half million new members had joined approved societies. More new members had joined friendly societies m the past three weeks than m the Avhole of the past twenty years. The Government would fulfil every pledge. The newspaper, announce that similar meetings projected by the Liberal Insurance Committee throughout the country to celebrate, .the enforcement of the Act have been largely abandoned, owing to the outcry,' agaiilst the measure, . and the Opposition newspapers ridiculing 'the so-called "joy day." Over half a million workrden have applied for unemployment books fpr the payment of contributions under the Insurance Act.
