TOKOMARU BAY.
The Farmers' new building is progressing very satisfactorily, and last week the contractors finished putting the roof on, which fact was heralded m thej usual way, and avos responded to by thej Co-operative Company m the customary manner by the builders drinking prosperity to the company. Captain Hoffey has resigned his position as master of the Waima Shipping Co's launch, and his place is being taken by Captain Plumber, from Auckland. Captain Hoffey has been m charge of the launch for about tAvo years, and has become very popular by his care and .hough-fulness for the passengers. He and his family leave for Wellington next Sunday. ... . 1 Last Wednesday Avas a very stormy day, and m consequence the launch missed tendering the Victoria from Auckland. The launch people Avere waiting for a sign of the steamer, but owing to the very foggy weather she was not seen till she came right into the ibay, and although the launch then, went out she was too late, the Victoria by that £ime being well out to sea again. HoAvever, the launch successfully tendered the boat from south m spite> of the heavy sea Avhich was running! The challenge match for the junior banner took place between the Toiaga Ray and Tokomaru juniors on Saturday afternoon. In the first fcpel^the local team had it all their OAvn way, and Avere successful m securing 15 points to their credit. The visitors failed to score. W. Ryland Avas too superior for. the' opposing team, and obtained three tries ih succession, none of which were converted. Sam> Mill crossed the visitors' line with the ball, and also kicked a goal. In the second spell, however, th© scene Avas changed. The Tolagaites seemed to Avake up. and had far the best* of the game, Keeping the local players on th< defensive the Avhole time. Thompson secured a try for Tolaga, Avhich was converted. The looaiites failed to score again, the game ending: Tokomaru 14, Tolaga 5. Mr D. Morphy ably controlled the game.— Correspondent.
