DELAYED BY FOG.
» (Per: Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last^ night. . A dense fog m Pegasus Bay delayed the ferry steamer Maori for about ah hour yesterday morning. The vesK.l left Wellington at 8 p.m.* yesterday with s\ strong southerly against her, but when *.'he pot well down the coast the wind died away to a calm, and at 3.30 a.m. to-day, when the Maori was passing Cheviot, she ran into; a very thick fryj. and had to proceed at reduced sjveu across Pegasvs Bay. Xo siyn of th . land could he seen as the steamer reached Lyttalton Heads, but the reports of" the detonating foghorns at Godley H.ad were heard plainly. -The Maori made her- way up -Lytteltcn harbor m th? <lense fog, the first land . bein j; sighted j.fter passing Gollin's'Bay, and she nrrived m port at 8 o'clock. Tha. Maori did iu»t corntct/ with the fir_t express for Duni'din, biit, 'con'sid. ring the exceptionally thick fog, Captain- Aldwell did very well m getting into port so early, the fog was the .first bad one which has been experienced -this winter, -and it commenced to clear m the outer harbor shortly after the arrival of the Maori.
