MOTOR-BOAT TURNS TURTLE.

ADVENTURES IN 40-KNCT CRAFT

LONDON, May 29. Travelling at 25 knots, after having previously reached 40 knots, Mr Mawdsloy Bmoke's new racing motor-boat, Baby VT,., carried away her steering coar and capsized at 'Oultoii Broad, Lowestoft. . The five occupantsfeMr Brooke, Mr C. M\ Manuelle, and thrpc mechanics — were rescued. ■

Mr Brooke said : "'We had ' been going wplendidly, and attained a speed of 40 knots, but had slowed down when the accident happened. We were -rounding a nasty, turn m the river when steering gear went wrong. The boat .listed badly and turned turtle.' I was shot out just before- she went over when going at 25 knots, and it was an extraordinary experience. I was flung- into the water and seemed to roll oyer and over.

"When I came to the surface only three of the others were afloat, but m a few seconds, to my relief. Mr Manuelle's head came above the water. He liad had his leg jammed m the gear, and when the boat, went over he. -could nol get free. His leg was badly hurt and had to be 'put m splints. The boat was afterwards raised." '"
