BULLDOG COLLECTORS.

AMERICANS GLADLY PAY £1200

FOR A SPECIMEN

LONDON, May 29. Bulldog collecting is- the latest craze of millionaires, and the statement that they think nothing of paying 1200 guineas for a good specimen was made to a press representative by Mr W. P. Dan do, hon. secretary to the Bulldog Club at the annual show held at 'tlie Holborn Hall. "In spite of the increased popularity of miniature Pomeranians, there is no falling off m the demand for bulldogs, especially by foreigners and Americans," said Mr Dando. "Tlie quality of the bulldog has never been finer, and he is as splendid an animal as ever he was. The fact that a few years ago he would have tackled a bidl without, waiting for provocation, and that now he is perfectly amiable until 'set on,' has iii no way affected i his world-wide reputation for pluck and pertinacity. When he gets there he stays -there!" The hall contained 135 magnificent specimens, each with a good headachy •wrinkle and foreshortened nose. The absence of tlie usual dog-show panderiionium was a refreshing feature of yesterday's exhibition. A dignified silence reigned on the benches, for the bulldog neither yaps, barks, nor roars when on show. Among the prize-winners was Lady Marcus Beresford's Smasher, a . son of Red Stone, and descendant of a famous lineage.
