ALLIANCE WITH FRANCE.
MORNING POSTS PROPOSAL..
LONDON, May 29. In a vigorous article, the Morning Post on Saturday urged the importance of concluding a definite alliance with France, pointing out that there are only two alternatives for Britain, co-operation With France or surrender to Germany. To tliose who do not grasp the position a third course seems possible, but the only third course, consists m shirking a decision ; this A is really identical with the second for it leads equally to surrender, or to what is nearly as bad, a hopeless war. Germany has a policy, which is lo separate England and France, m order to 'dictate to each of them m turn.
Last year the German r Government believed that England and France were separated. .She offered to renew that .dictation to France which had on some previous occasions succeeded. She Was surprised and disconcerted to find that England stood by France. She drew back.
Her present policy, is to lull British anxiety and prevent this countsy from arming. The effect of this will be that France having no assurance of ' British support, Avill be compelled to reconsider her policy. > The crucial point is the "decision . now about, to be made with regard 'tp the Mediterranean. The Mbrhing Post argues that if Britain withdraws /.her fleet and does not enter into an alliance with France, France and all the. other Powers of Europe will.be driven' to make their 'terms with Germany, and Britain will bo left isolated.
