The Gisborne Liedertafel concert tp be held on Tuesday night should"- prove a most successful affair. In addition to the concerted numbers, m which the society is certain to acquit itself Creditably, the success should be considerably enhanced % -"the' so'lbisfe whose services the society has been fortunate m. enlisting fpr the occasion. Gisborne people will.be given an opportunity of healing the favorite baritone singer, Mr John Protise. He has been associated with some of the finest artists of the present day, and. has been a very popular .contributor to. their programmes. He Accompanied Kubelijc, the famous violinist, and was "the male singer with Madame Kailiwoda's concert .party,. -also with Hen* Wilhelm Backhaus, the famous pianist. He was also. a member -Qf.^ladame Melba's and Mdlle. Dolores' concert oompanies. Some English, press notices to hand give high praise, to Mr John Prouse as a singer. St. James' Gazette refers ta his "cultured style and melodious voice," the Kent Tdnies states #hat he sang magnificently, the Weston Mercury alludes' to "the wonderful compass of his voice," and Vanity Fair also praises his "rich baritone voice and excellent enunciation," while other English journals have very favorable notices. The Sydney Herald .and Sydney Telegraph, referring to Mr Prouse's appearance at the Dolores concerts, each pay a tribute to the baritone's singing, the Herald stating that the encore recalls were never betters bestowed. With such a fine singer to support the Liedertafel there should he a strong demand for reserved seats for the concert on Tuesday night.
