The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on their stock sale held at Matawhero yards on Thursday, 23rd inst.: — For n winter sale very large yardings of both sheep and cattle came forward, and a considerable amount of business was transacted during the day. Sheep : Our yarding comprised 6386, of which we sold 5474. The passed lots consisted entirely of aged ewes, for .which there was practically no demand. Wethers': We disposed of over: 2500 under a brisk com petition at prices ranging from 12s to 12s Bd. Hoggets: Our yarding of these was about 1500. Small cull hoggets made- from 5s 5d to 7s ; medium lines 7s 8d to 8s Id, whilst good average lines of shorn hoggets realised from 9s 2d to 98 6d. demand was apparently unsatisfied at the close of the day's business. Two-tooth ewes (small and empty) made from 8s to 8s 9d, forward ewe 9up to 8s < lid, ' fat ewes 10s to lis, ewes m lamb (mixed ages) 66 8d to Bs, whilst for cull ewes (empty) from 3s .6d to 5s 6d, according to condition, were the prices. Cattle: We yarded 602, and sold 465. For beef cattle there was practically no demand, the butchers being apparently full. We sol dlight beef cows at from £4 to £4 2s 6d, and steers £6. In the store pens a really fine line of weaners came jtorward, many being Polled Angus cross, and iri fuirlv good condition. There were very few dairy cattle oh offer, but both heifers and cows are m good demand... We sold the latter at up to £8. Pigs were a small entry, porkers realising 30s. The next sale will be held, on Thursday, June 6th, and the wdol and skin sale' will be held on the .following day, June -7th. We should be glad to have 'entries tor both these sales as early as possible.

At Messrs Miller and Craig's auction mart to-day tho following prices wero realised: — ■Ducks Is 6d to 2s, hens Is to 2s sd, roosters Is 6d to 2s, guinea fowl 2s, pumpkins 4s doz,, melons 5s .doz., preserved eggs Is 6d, fresh eggs 2s to 2s 6d, kumeras lid, apples lid to 2d,'; oranges. 4s to 5s case, butter lid. ,Tho following prices are quoted by Messrs F. , S.
