LAST NIGHT'S TELEGRAMS.

(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The .Minister . for Justice (Hon. J. Hanan) has approved pf the following promotions and transfers m the police force :-- Inspector Mitchell (Dunedin) to Inspector at Auckland m place of Inspector Cullen, now Commissioner of Police ; Inspector Dwyer (Napier) to go to Dunedin; Inspector O'Donovan (Lnvercargill) to go to Napier; Inspector Norwood (Greymouth) to go to Invercargill; Sub-Inspector Phair (Tiraaru) is promoted to be Inspector of Police, and will go to Greymbutlf.

DUisEDIN, last night. Before Mr Justice Williams to-day two' motions concerning the arrest of the Wairoa were mentioned. One "was to join another defendant to the action, the Stevenson and Cook Engineering Company v. the ship Wairoa, and the other was - to set aside a writ of summons and a warrant of arrest. Mr W. D. Steward appeared m support of the motion and Mr W. C. MacGregor on behalf of Messrs Stevenson and Cook. Mr MacGregor pointed out that the second motion had only come under his notice that morning, and it was unreasonable to expect him to.be m a position to argue .it. There were certain particulars not disclosed m the papers which would have to be obtained. The matter .was allowed to stand over till next Chamber day.
