As the steamer Peregrine, Avith over 100 passengers and a large general cargo, was leaving the river, a plate over an old porthole was displaced. The water gained rapidly, and the captain beached the A-essel at Entrance Bay to prevent her sinking. The passengers were landed. The damage to the cargo will not be knoAvn until the steamer has been temporarily repaired and. reberthed.
