TURANGA CARDEN FETE.
The promoters of the Turanga Garden Fete appear to be most unfortunate regarding the weather for their annual fixture, and yesterday's experience led to a good deal of discussion amongst a number of regular attenders at the fetes as to whether the function was not held too late — usually just after the weather breaks, when it is so uncertain as to rain coming on. The opinion was generally expressed that the fete should be held not later than the first week "m February. Although those present yesterday made the, best of the unpleasant situation caused by the steady rain that set m during the afternoon, the monetary result of the undertaking was sadly affected, as the various adjuncts did not meet with the same amount of patronage as they otlierwise would have done. Especially was this so m regard to ,the motor-car rides, for before the rain set m Mr H. de Lautour was doing great business with his car.' Everything came to a standstill for an hour or so, until the sale of work was transferred to the college, where business was commenced again. Th© vain ceased about 4 o'clock, and the gymkhana events, which had been abandoned at an earlier hour, were resumed. However, only three further races took place, the ground being too slippery for the jumping. The l'esults were as . follows :->-
Tilting. at the Ring: D. Neenan 1, W Barber 2, A. Walker 3.
Threading the Needle : Miss E. Black and A. Barber 1, Miss Condon and D. Neenan'2, Miss Image and J. Jobson 3.
